Sponsors Sought for Secret Pal Program
The city is seeking Secret Pals to sponsor children of low-income families for participation in summer activities.
The Secret Pal program provides youngsters with the chance to gain “positive benefits, such as self-esteem, confidence, creativity, enjoyment and physical well-being,” said Rosemary Castro, the program’s coordinator.
Children in the 7-year-old program cannot otherwise afford to participate in city-sponsored swimming lessons, and other recreational activities, Castro said.
“Consequently, the only ‘playground’ the children have is the streets,” she said. But, with a Secret Pal, “these kids can leave the streets and take part in a variety of fun activities, which can make a difference in their lives.”
Those interested in becoming Secret Pals are asked to call (714) 738-3146.
