Merchandising JFK

As Donald Liebenson observes, one of the most tragic and disturbing moments of American history was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (“Zapruder Film Coming Soon to Home Theaters,” July 11).

It is, however, the height of poor taste to commercially capitalize and merchandise the Zapruder film for public sale in a “newly digitized color version . . . that boasts unprecedented clarity.”

Interestingly enough, the article concluded on a page that advertised a restored version of “Gone With the Wind.” Perhaps the merchandisers of the Kennedy assassination film could adapt the merchandising copy as follows:

“See it as you’ve never seen it before. Catch JFK as the sniper’s bullet enters his skull and catch the gory aftermath in glorious living color and in a dazzling digitally remastered version. Only $19.95.”
