From Times Wire Reports

The teenager who allegedly shot three high school classmates to death and wounded five others while they prayed will plead guilty with the hope of receiving a lenient sentence because he is mentally ill, his attorney said. Michael Carneal, 15, is scheduled to stand trial Oct. 5 on three counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder. But Commonwealth’s Atty. Tim Kaltenbach said he will not agree to a plea of guilty but mentally ill. He said he will continue to seek the maximum punishment: life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
