Teen Injured When Car Slams Into Pole
A teenager was hospitalized in guarded condition with a head injury Tuesday night after his car slammed into a concrete light standard in Oak Park.
Ryan Patrick Odenberg, 18, of Agoura Hills was airlifted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks after the 5:06 p.m. crash on Kanan Road near the entrance to a condominium community on Sunnycrest Drive, Ventura County Fire Capt. Bob Ameche said.
The impact of Odenberg’s silver-colored Honda Accord smashing into the pole crushed the driver’s side, forcing firefighters to cut off his seat belt and remove him through a passenger door, Ameche said.
Odenberg’s mother arrived during the rescue. Ameche did not know if she had been driving in the area or if she was notified of the accident.
When Odenberg was loaded onto the helicopter, he was breathing on his own, according to Ameche. The California Highway Patrol described Odenberg as being combative during the rescue.
There was no information on the cause of the crash.
