Register to Vote

Today is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 general election. The registrar’s office will be open additional hours to assist voters.

Who can register: You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 on or before election day and a California resident for 29 days before the election. If you move within 28 days of the election, you can vote by returning to your former precinct or by obtaining an absentee ballot for that precinct. If you are in prison or on parole for a felony you are ineligible.

Reasons to register or re-register:

* You have never registered.

* You have moved since the last election.

* You have changed your name.

* You want to change your party affiliation.

How and where to register: For information on where to obtain a registration form, call (562) 466-1323. The registrar’s office--12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk--will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. Registration forms may be dropped off at a collection box in the office until midnight.

Absentee ballots: Applications for absentee ballots are on the back page of your sample ballot. They may also be obtained by writing to the registrar at the above address. Applications for absentee ballots must be received in the registrar’s office by Oct. 27.
