My Favorite Weekend

Kelly Slater, five-time world champion surfer and lead singer for the Surfers, is currently dating Pamela Anderson. The Surfers’ debut album, “Songs From the Pipe,” was released in July on Epic Records.

Boys’ Night Out: Since I surf competitively most of the year, it’s rare to have a free weekend. When I do, I like to start it off Friday night by having dinner with friends at Spago in West Hollywood, where my favorite dish is halibut, followed by just about anything off the dessert tray. Afterward, we go to the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica and see any movie with Jim Carrey in it. The night ends with a bottle of red wine and a few rounds on the Barb Wire pinball machine in my friend’s garage.

Surf’s Up: Sleeping in is a luxury in my profession, so I definitely catch a few extra winks Saturday morning. If the waves are good, I’ll have an early lunch at my favorite taco shop, Holy Guacamole in Santa Monica, before I drive up to Point Dume to go surfing with friends. After surfing, we picnic on the beach--usually something simple and healthy, such as lean meats and fruit--before heading off to do yoga or Tae Bo. Both are great for stretching and limbering up the body, and a great way to relax.

Peaceful Easy Feeling: After a day of surfing, I prefer my Saturday night to be more on the mellow side. A nice dinner at Sushi Ko in Westwood is followed by a quiet night at home with my lady and a bottle of red wine.

Catch a Wave: Sunday morning, I like to get up early and drive up to Ventura Harbor to go surfing and fishing with my good friend, surfboard shaper Al Merrick. I like to eat lunch at the Big Yellow House in Montecito.

Home on the Range: If I have time on Sunday afternoon, I try to get in a round of golf at L.A. North [the north course at L.A. Country Club] or at the very least go to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls. Other than surfing, golf is easily my favorite sport.
