The City Council last week approved a $130,000 contract with CompUSA to upgrade the city’s computer system. Included are the purchase of 31 personal computers that are Y2K-compliant and the creation of a centralized networking system. Council member David Shawver cast the only dissenting vote, saying the memory offered in the CompUSA computers was not enough to justify the expenditure. “To me, we’re building a system for the future,” he said. “[This system] doesn’t have enough memory.”
