Investment Promoter Gets 3 Years’ Probation

Share

Rafi M. Khan, a well-known Southland investment promoter who has been involved with many controversial stocks over the years, was sentenced to three years’ probation after pleading guilty last summer to filing a false tax return. The sentence, handed down in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, includes six months in home detention for the 48-year-old Khan. He could have received 16 months in jail, but federal prosecutors had asked for a lighter sentence because Khan “has provided significant and valuable cooperation in ongoing investigations,” the U.S. attorney’s office said.
