Ventura East Rotary presents its second annual Salsa Music Festival on Saturday at Lake Casitas, near Ojai. The event will include performances by Orquesta la Palabra, Bobby Matos Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble, Charanga Cubana and Son Mayor Salsa Band. Also on tap: free boat rides, dance lessons and contests, and children’s activities. Proceeds benefit local scholarships.

Precipitous Records and Sally Kopf Productions will team to present Agility: A Women’s Music Festival on Saturday at the Libbey Bowl in downtown Ojai. The benefit concert, with proceeds going to the Arthritis Foundation, will feature Perla Batalla, Rain Perry, Julie Christensen, Mary Z. Wilson and friends, Sara Hickman, Patricia Cardinali and Kat Herron.

Poetry Plus

Afro-Centric Committee of Ventura County will host its third annual benefit Showcase Artwalk & Poetry Reading in Simi Valley on Saturday. The event aims to raise money for high school scholarships and promote education and appreciation of African American culture. Featured will be award-winning poet Billie Jean Young, who will be accompanied by flutist Charles Howard, plus local poets Bill Thurman, Trina Ross and others. Also, several artisans will display a wide variety of paintings and other works.

Beach Party

The California Beach Festival will return to Ventura’s Beachfront Promenade this weekend. The annual event offers live entertainment on two stages, a classic car show, a professional surfing contest, a freestyle Frisbee demonstration, vendors galore and children’s activities.
