Police on Wednesday arrested a man wanted on suspicion of drug and parole violations after the suspect allegedly set his residence on fire as officers tried serving him a warrant.

Eduardo Telles, 25, was taken into custody about 7 a.m. and booked in connection with the violations and the fire, said Pomona police Lt. Ron McDonald.

When the officers first arrived to serve the warrant to Telles, he refused to leave his home and threw an unknown chemical out the rear window, police said. Then, he set the residence on fire, officers reported.

During the fire, Telles emerged from the smoke but went back inside, according to McDonald. Officers of the Special Tactics and Response Team rushed in, grabbed Telles and took him outside into custody.

Telles, who complained of an injury, was first treated at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and then booked at Pomona City Jail, McDonald said.

Seven police officers and two firefighters were also taken to the hospital after complaining of dizziness.
