Partners for Life, a coalition of 13 local humane organizations, and the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services will hold a new volunteers orientation meeting Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the East Valley Animal Shelter, 13131 Sherman Way, North Hollywood. Free. (818) 710-9898.

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control Equine Response Team will hold a volunteer orientation meeting March 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lost Hills Sheriff Station, 27058 Agoura Road, Agoura. The team rescues horses and other livestock trapped during disasters or accidents. The group needs drivers and volunteers to work in maintenance and communications, at shelter sites and with trailer teams. Training lasts 40 hours. The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program needs counselors to provide information and advocacy for Medicare recipients at senior centers throughout Los Angeles. The nonprofit Center for Health Care Rights runs the program. Training starts in late April. Call (800) 824-0780 for information and an application.

The Family Stress Center in North Hills needs volunteers to work with physically abused preschoolers and children in play therapy groups while under the supervision of a staff therapist. Burbank’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program is seeking participants 55 and older to volunteer at Walt Disney Elementary School. Volunteers also are needed at the Burbank Stough Canyon Nature Center. The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California seeks participants to do reception and kitchen work at the Los Angeles Mission Women’s Outreach in downtown L.A.
