McDonald’s Lays Out Expansion Plans

McDonald’s Corp. is planning to increase the number of its non-hamburger restaurants this year, a spokeswoman for the world’s largest fast-food chain said. McDonald’s will open 160 to 180 new restaurants under its Chipotle Mexican Grill, Donato’s Pizza and London-based Aroma Cafe brands, spokeswoman Anna Rozenich said. There are now 37 Chipotle, 147 Donato’s and 30 Aromas operating. McDonald’s also plans to add 1,800 to 1,900 hamburger restaurants this year, 90% of them outside the United States. The Oak Brook, Ill.-based chain added 1,790 restaurants last year, bringing its worldwide total to 26,800. McDonald’s closed up $1.69 at $36.81 on the NYSE.
