Suspect Arrested in Killing of TV Figure
Police arrested a man suspected of killing Jill Dando, a popular British television personality who was fatally shot on her doorstep last year. The suspect, who was not identified, was detained at daybreak in a raid on a London house, police said. Dando, 37, appeared on news and current affairs programs for the British Broadcasting Corp. She was shot in the head at close range in April 1999 outside her west London home. Investigators believe that the killing may be linked to Dando’s participation on the “Crimewatch UK” program that reconstructs crimes to help catch suspects. They also say it may have been the work of a stalker.
