Court Upholds Jail Term for Reformist Lawmaker
An Iranian appeals court upheld a seven-month jail sentence for a reformist member of parliament convicted of spreading lies against the state, government-run newspapers said.
Mohammed Dadfar, who has sought the release of imprisoned journalists and intellectuals, was also charged with defaming the National Security Council, a panel dominated by conservatives approved by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
About 30 reformist lawmakers have been prosecuted in the last year for published articles or speeches in parliament.
