* Is Laura Ingraham for real (Commentary, Jan. 7)? Her step-by-step plan for thwarting Sen. John McCain’s legislative agenda is laughable because she barely mentions what his proposals are all about: banning soft money. She casually brands Republicans like McCain as sellouts because they have more faith in the American people to influence our elected officials than in the wealthy special interests favored by our president-elect.

Your support for the McCain-Feingold campaign reform bill (editorial, Jan. 7) is welcome, but perhaps you could frame it in a larger context. Is it possible under capitalism to eliminate the domination of democratic institutions by big money? We would all benefit from more consideration of such issues in The Times.
