Neighbor Accused of Shooting Partygoer
A La Conchita man was in custody Sunday after he allegedly fired a handgun into a crowd of partygoers behind his Ojai Avenue home, wounding a Santa Barbara resident in the neck.
Donald Watton, 64, was booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm and felony unlawful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence after the Saturday night incident, said Eric Nishimoto, a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Mark Mosby, 20, was shot once in the neck about 11:30 p.m., Nishimoto said. He was taken to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, where he was listed in good condition Sunday.
Watton allegedly fired on the crowd in the 6800 block of Santa Barbara Avenue after his requests to turn down the music were ignored, Nishimoto said.
Watton, who suffered a cut to the head when a rock was thrown at him, was treated at Ventura County Medical Center before being booked into County Jail, Nishimoto said.
His bail was set at $50,000, and he is to be arraigned Tuesday, officials said.
