Compulsory Schooling

Now that the Republicans are in power--any chance for an end to compulsory schooling? There is absolutely no evidence that schooling causes learning. In fact, there is much evidence that schooling impedes learning and leads to a host of other problems, such as low self-esteem, wasted time and poisonous school bus fumes. The ability to learn is inherent in each of us at birth, and our communities are full of opportunities for growth.

I am finally using some of the algebra I had in school, helping my seventh-grader with her first year of school algebra. And I am wondering if she will use what she learns soon or 28 years in the future. All the while, I know I could learn any math I really needed any time I wanted, and not just because it’s on that year’s curriculum.
