Six Inmates Killed in Fight at Prison
Six Venezuelan prisoners were killed and eight were injured in a clash between rival gangs of armed inmates at the country’s notorious El Tocuyito prison, southwest of Caracas, the capital.
Globovision television reported that a gun battle broke out after a gang of inmates from one section stormed a wing controlled by a rival group.
National Guard Gen. Rafael Dubron said a homemade grenade or bomb exploded during the battle but that troops had entered the facility and restored order. It was not clear how the six inmates were killed.
