U.S. Approves Gambling Deals for State, Tribes
Federal officials approved gambling compacts between New Mexico and tribal governments, clearing the way for the tribes to continue operating casinos and sharing revenue with the state, officials said.
“It’s been a very long, stressful political process,” said Stuwart Paisano, governor of the Sandia Pueblo. He said money from the tribe’s casino pays for health, law enforcement and social service programs.
Gov. Gary Johnson, in a written statement, said the compacts will provide steady revenue for the state and for the tribes.
