* Optical network equipment maker JDS Uniphase Corp. announced it is cutting an additional 2,000 jobs as it posted a $4.3-billion loss for its fiscal third quarter. For the three months ended March 30, the company lost $3.19 per share, compared with a loss of $41.8 billion, or $36.63 per share, in the same period a year ago. Excluding special items, the company lost $66million, or 5 cents per share, compared with a profit of $160 million, or 14 cents per share, a year ago. The company reported sales of $262million for the third quarter, compared with $920 million for the same period last year.

* Overture Services Inc. earned $29.3 million in the first quarter as more businesses paid to have their Web sites listed prominently in Overture’s Internet search engine. Net income was 48 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $6.7 million, or 13 cents. Sales almost tripled to $142.8 million from $52 million.

* Ingram Micro Inc., the biggest computer-products distributor, reported a first-quarter loss as sales dropped 22% amid slow economic growth. The loss was $265.4 million, or $1.74 a share, compared with net income of $26.4 million, or 18 cents, in the year-earlier period.

* Internet car seller Autobytel Inc. posted a wider net loss after a restructuring charge but said it expected to post a net profit in the second quarter. Autobytel reported a first-quarter net loss of $18.5 million, or 59 cents a share, after a $19.2-million charge for its European operations. It posted a net loss of $4.1 million, or 20 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue for the first quarter rose to $20.7 million from $16.7 million a year earlier.

* Western Digital Corp., a maker of computer disk drives, said fiscal third-quarter profit and sales met its increased forecasts as revenue jumped 16% from a year ago. Net income in the quarter ended March 29 was $19.2million, or 10 cents a share, compared with a loss of $5.75 million, or 3 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose to $594.9million from $511.7million.

* Consumer electronics maker Sonicblue Inc. reported a narrower first-quarter loss on higher revenue, driven by demand for its digital audio and video products. Sonicblue reported a net loss of $16.6 million, or 18 cents per share. A year ago, the company reported a net loss of $335.8 million, or $4.16 per share, which included an investment write-down and other special items. Excluding special items, Sonicblue had an operating loss of $7 million, or 7 cents a share. Revenue in the quarter was $65 million, compared with $49.8million a year earlier.
