Probe Ordered to See if Effluent Tainting Water
From Staff and Wire Reports
A $250,000 investigation has been ordered to determine if treated sewer effluent used to irrigate hay fields is tainting drinking water in Contra Costa County.
The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board launched the probe in response to evidence that effluent from the Ironhouse Sanitary District may be adding salt to the Contra Costa canal.
The canal is controlled by the Contra Costa Water District, which delivers water to thousands of homes.
The probe should be finished within the year.
