Jackson Issues Statement on Case

Share

In his first public comments since star guard Kobe Bryant was charged with the sexual assault of a 19-year-old Eagle, Colo., woman, Laker Coach Phil Jackson released a statement Monday through his agent, Todd Musburger.

It read:

“For the past four years it has been my privilege to coach Kobe Bryant. He has consistently demonstrated responsible behavior to me both on and off the basketball court. I was saddened by the allegations against Kobe. Obviously, there are some difficult days ahead for the Bryant family. As his coach and mentor he has my full support. Kobe is entitled to the presumption of innocence, a hallmark of our legal system, and judgment must occur within the Colorado courtrooms.”

Jackson was not available for further comment.
