Youth serves

The feature on Chavez Ravine (“Requiem for the Ravine,” by Mike Boehm, May 18) quoted former Los Angeles City Council member Rosalind Wyman, who served from 1953 to 1965. She is said to be 72, which means half a century ago when she was elected she was 22. I am impressed with this achievement. As California’s youngest city councilman in 1965, at age 27 (city of San Diego), I’m pleased to see I was a late bloomer. Let us celebrate the achievements of youth, especially back when young women were expected to stay home or work as secretaries.
