18 Die as Rebels Battle Government Forces

Clashes between security forces and Maoist rebels that came just days after the guerrillas withdrew from peace talks left 10 rebels, six policemen and two soldiers dead, officials said.
Armed rebels killed four policemen at Chapiya, about 190 miles west of the capital, Katmandu. Also, rebels killed two soldiers at Surkhet, about 320 miles northwest of Katmandu. Ten rebels were killed in the gunfight that followed.
Two more policemen were killed elsewhere in other attacks.
