U.S. Soldiers Fend Off Attack, Kill 6 Iraqis

TIKRIT, Iraq —
U.S. forces killed six Iraqis who attacked their convoy with rocket-propelled grenades and guns west of Kirkuk, Lt. Col. William MacDonald, spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division, said Sunday.
Two other attackers and two soldiers were wounded in the Saturday incident, he said.
Also on Sunday, U.S. Central Command said a 4th Infantry Division soldier drowned when his vehicle fell into a canal Friday near Tikrit. The soldier who drowned was not immediately identified.
