Mortgage Applications, Refinancings Rise

New-home loan applications rose and refinancings surged last week as 30-year mortgage interest rates fell to their lowest level in four months, an industry group said.
The Mortgage Bankers Assn. said its index of mortgage activity rose for the week ended Friday by 11.9% to 689.4. The refinancing index jumped by 20.9% to 1,982.7.
