Rates on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages fell to 5.81% this week, down from 5.85% last week and the lowest level in more than four months, Freddie Mac said.

Rates on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages, a popular option for refinancing, also declined this week, to 5.19% from 5.24%. For one-year adjustable-rate mortgages, rates dipped to 4.01%, down from 4.08% last week.

The nationwide averages for mortgage rates do not include add-on fees known as points. The 30-year mortgage carried an average 0.7-point fee this week while the 15-year and 1-year mortgages both carried a 0.6-point fee.
