Subtle Stagecraft

Just so you know -- Dallas is a “Wall of Blood” city.... Once Slayer’s production manager arrives at the venue, he’ll determine if the Wall of Blood device will be used that night, so the only way the photographers know for sure when they’ll be shooting is when they sign their release form when they pick up their photo pass.... When we do “Wall of Blood,” I usually tell the photographers that they should move to the designated meeting place during the song “South of Heaven,” which is the fourth-from-the-last song.

-- From a press release received recently by Texas newspapers from an Encino-based publicist for the metal band Slayer, whose website explains: At select shows (determined by each venue’s technical specs) during Slayer’s classic song “Raining Blood,” the band, their instruments and the stage will be drenched by a downpour of ... more than 150 liters of theatrical blood.
