Alleged Carjacking Killer Held in Mexico
The alleged gunman in the 2001 carjacking and killing of a Riverside woman has been arrested in Mexico, officials announced Monday.
Hector Aguirre, 20, was arrested by Mexican federal agents Jan. 20 at the Mexico City electronics store where he worked, San Bernardino police said.
Hannah Jordan, 54, was leaving a doughnut shop on West Highland Avenue in San Bernardino when, authorities say, Aguirre demanded the car at gunpoint and fired several rounds into the car, mortally wounding her. He allegedly pushed Jordan onto the pavement and drove off in her 2001 Chrysler 300M.
Two other men who authorities say were with Aguirre on the day of the crime have been implicated in the killing. Eliazar Rangel, 22, was arrested in March 2002 but was released pending more investigation. Ruben Garcia, 21, was arrested in April 2002, when he was already in custody in Los Angeles on an unrelated case. He remains behind bars.
The capture of Aguirre was a joint operation by Mexican officials, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Justice and Inland Empire law enforcement agencies.
Aguirre is in a Mexico City jail awaiting extradition.
