Dog’s Best Friends Pull Us From a Pit

Re “Dog Survives 4 Weeks in a Pit,” May 20: I was very impressed with the actions of Darren and Scott Mertz, who determined to save a dog left for dead in a 30-foot hole and then return it to its family.

With all the war and fighting and nasty politics going on throughout the world, the selfless act of rescuing a dog gives me hope that we aren’t the horrible people that other countries, and many of our own citizens, seem to view us as.
