Sailors Can Skip Skirts Under New Dress Code
The Navy is getting a makeover, with a new dress code that makes skirts optional for its more than 54,000 female sailors.
Until this month, women had to keep skirts in their sea bags and could be ordered to change from pants for events such as change of command and retirement ceremonies.
The new dress code also allows cellphones, personal digital assistants and pagers to be worn on official business.
Lisa Mikoliczyk, a spokeswoman for Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Terry D. Scott, said: “They are really common-sense, practical changes that are in line with the Navy of the 21st century.”
