Idaho Man Charged in Connection With Chase
An Idaho man who allegedly led police on a high-speed chase across three counties with three children and their mother in his SUV was charged in Van Nuys on Monday with child endangerment and evading officers.
Douglas Newman, 37, pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could face up to nine years in prison.
The chase began Thursday morning near a mall in Woodland Hills after police were told that a man had forced a woman into a SUV with children inside.
It ended two hours later near the Montecito area in Santa Barbara County when the suspect exited the 101 Freeway and was blocked by construction.
