From Bloomberg News

JDS Uniphase Corp., the world’s largest maker of parts for fiber-optic networks, agreed to buy Acterna Inc. for $760 million to bolster its sales of testing and management products for cable and telephone providers.

JDS Uniphase will pay $450 million in cash and $310 million of its shares for closely held Acterna, the San Jose-based company said.

The deal would help JDS Uniphase Chief Executive Kevin Kennedy pare losses by courting a bigger roster of phone and cable companies. Acterna, with 250 customers, had sales of more than $440 million in the fiscal year that ended in March.
