Saudi Arabia Wins Approval to Join WTO
Saudi Arabia won permission to join the World Trade Organization after more than 12 years of negotiations.
By approving the kingdom’s accession, WTO members “have taken not only a major step toward better international economic cooperation, but they have allowed the World Trade Organization to become more universal,” said Kenyan Ambassador Amina Chawahir Mohamed, who heads the trade body’s general council.
Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil producer, will become the WTO’s 149th member Dec. 11, two days before the trade body’s Hong Kong summit starts.
