Panel OKs $300,000 for Katrina Evacuees

The Community Redevelopment Agency board approved spending $300,000 to help house people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
The city is making plans to accept up to 5,000 evacuees.
“One of our primary mandates is to provide affordable housing,” acting Chief Executive Richard Benbow said in a statement. The agency will seek reimbursement for the expense from the federal government.
