A woman who confessed to failing to set off a suicide bomb vest during an attack on three Jordanian hotels told a court Monday that she had married an Iraqi man just days before he blew himself up in the assault.

Security officials said the marriage apparently was meant to allow the 35-year-old woman, Sajida Rishawi, to leave Iraq with her male co-conspirators.

Veiled and chained at the ankles, Rishawi went on trial charged with trying to carry out the Nov. 9 suicide attack in Amman, the capital, which killed 63 people, including her husband and two other suicide bombers.

Chief among eight defendants being tried in absentia is Abu Musab Zarqawi, leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, which claimed responsibility for the attack.
