Share

Los Angeles biopharmaceutical maker Abraxis BioScience Inc. announced an agreement to buy a Pfizer Inc. manufacturing facility in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico.

The plant will expand Abraxis’ capacity to produce drugs such as Abraxane, which was approved last year for the treatment of advanced breast cancer and is the first anti-cancer agent on the market engineered through nanotechnology.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Under the deal, Abraxis would lease a portion of the site back to the seller to continue the manufacturing of Pfizer’s celecoxib, the active ingredient of Celebrex.
