Relaxing is nice, but a workaholic has his limits

Share

ACTOR-singer-model Tyrese is as busy as one might expect of a multi-hyphenate man, and that’s how he likes it. “I’m a workaholic, for real,” says the “very single” L.A. resident. “I can’t spend more than five hours on recreation. I’m always in the studio at my crib.”

The fruit of his labors arrives Tuesday, the double CD “Alter Ego,” one disc R&B; and the other hip-hop. In the meantime, we’ve asked Tyrese to break his five-hour recreation record.

Hollywood bowl

On a Friday night, I might go bowling at Lucky Strike. I like the food, the energy and the convenience of the place, right around the corner from my office in Hollywood. I’d order some finger foods while we’re bowling -- some wings, maybe some pizza. Or we could go to Mr. Chow and have some dinner.

Maybe we’d go to a club later. Somewhere with class, where you don’t feel as if just anybody can get in -- like Club Xenii, which they usually do at a movie studio, but it moves around.

Dogs, then the spa

On Saturday morning, the first thing I’ll want to do is eat. I love home-cooked meals, so I’d probably have a lady friend cook something for me.

I’d also play with my four dogs in my backyard. I’ve got a Shar-Pei, two miniature schnauzers and a Maltese. I might work out in my garage on my treadmill, lift some weights, do abs work or go play basketball.

Then I’d go to Burke Williams. I love the Nourishing Facial treatment and four-layer masque. It makes my skin feel smooth, like a baby’s bottom. And I like the deep-tissue massage, because I am always on the stage performing and my muscles get sore, and the massage is the most relaxing thing to do.

For dinner, I’d go to Citizen Smith right by my office and order my favorite, the shrimp appetizer. And then I love taking a long drive to this secluded beach I know. Sometimes I just go there to think and get away from my everyday grind. I’ll get a blanket out of the back of my truck and spend the night just chillin’.

Day of rest

Every Sunday I go to Faithful Central Bible Church at the Forum. I’m there at 10 a.m. sharp, and it usually lasts until about 1:30. After church, I’d go to the Cheesecake Factory in Marina del Rey for brunch. I love the popcorn shrimp and the Tex-Mex wraps, their steaks and salads.

I love taking long drives in my Bentley GT, all through the back roads. It gives me peace of mind; I listen to my favorite CDs and unwind.

Then one of my favorite things to do is to play dominoes with some of my closest homies. I’ll have them come over and we’ll throw down on some barbecue and play bones. It gives me a chance to just hang out with the people that know me best and stay in touch with friends that I grew up with.
