The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

Paul Balint Jr., 22, of Willow Park, Texas; private first class, Army. Balint was killed Friday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division in Friedberg, Germany.

James Kristofer R. Ciraso, 26, of Bangor, Maine; staff sergeant, Army. Ciraso was killed Dec. 7 when a roadside bomb exploded near his military vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Thomas W. Clemons, 37, of Leitchfield, Ky.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Clemons died of a heart attack Dec. 10 as his unit was preparing to go out on patrol in Diwaniya, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 123rd Armor Regiment, Army National Guard in Leitchfield, Ky.

Budd M. Cote, 21, of Marana, Ariz.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Cote was among three Marines killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif.

Gloria D. Davis, 47, of St. Louis; major, Army. Davis died Tuesday of noncombat-related injuries in Baghdad. She was assigned to the Defense Security Assistance Agency in Washington, which handles sales of military equipment to foreign nations.

Matthew V. Dillon, 25, of Aiken, S.C.; corporal, Marine Corps. Dillon was among three Marines killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif.

Brent W. Dunkleberger, 29, of New Bloomfield, Pa.; sergeant, Army. Dunkleberger was killed Tuesday when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle during a convoy security mission in Mosul, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Philip C. Ford, 21, of Freeport, Texas; specialist, Army. Ford was among three paratroopers killed Dec. 10 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Brennan C. Gibson, 26, of Tualatin, Ore.; sergeant, Army. Gibson was among three paratroopers killed Dec. 10 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Micah S. Gifford, 27, of Redding, Calif.; specialist, Army. Gifford was one of two paratroopers killed Dec. 7 when a roadside bomb exploded near their unit while on patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Nathan M. Krissoff, 25, of Reno; first lieutenant, Marine Corps. Krissoff was killed Dec. 9 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. A counterintelligence officer, he was assigned to the Headquarters and Service Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.

Henry W. Linck, 23, of Manhattan, Kan.; staff sergeant, Army. Linck was one of two paratroopers killed Dec. 7 when a roadside bomb exploded near their unit while on patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Brian P. McAnulty, 39, of Vicksburg, Miss.; master sergeant, Marine Corps. McAnulty was killed Monday when the CH-53 helicopter he was riding in crashed just after takeoff in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Megan M. McClung, 34, of Coupeville, Wash.; major, Marine Corps. McClung was killed Dec. 6 when a roadside bomb exploded near her Humvee in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. The public affairs officer, who was escorting reporters in a convoy, was the first female Marine officer to be killed in the war. She was assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Clinton J. Miller, 23, of Greenfield, Iowa; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Miller was among three Marines killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif.

Shawn M. Murphy, 24, of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; private first class, Army. Murphy was among three paratroopers killed Dec. 10 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Albert Nelson, 31, of Philadelphia; private first class, Army. Nelson was one of two soldiers killed Dec. 4 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire while conducting security and observation operations in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Nicholas P. Steinbacher, 22, of La Crescenta; specialist, Army. Steinbacher was killed Dec. 10 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Roger A. Suarez-Gonzalez, 21, of Miami; private first class, Army. Suarez-Gonzalez was one of two soldiers killed Dec. 4 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire while conducting security and observation operations in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Cody G. Watson, 21, of Oxford, Ala.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Watson died Dec. 6 after falling ill and collapsing in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
