Malaria programs need support
Re “The good fight,” editorial, Dec. 14
You rightly point out that the White House malaria summit comes at a time when crucial programs to fight this deadly disease are at risk. The decision by the Democratic leadership in Congress to continue programs at existing levels puts these programs in serious jeopardy. It is up to members of the House Appropriations Committee -- such as Reps. Jerry Lewis (R-Redlands) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Los Angeles) -- to take a courageous stand and commit the needed funds to fighting malaria. Malaria is preventable, treatable and kills over a million people a year. We can beat it, but not with empty promises.
