A 10-year-old boy was killed and a woman suspected of drunk driving was seriously injured in a two-car collision in Van Nuys, police said Thursday.

Neither the boy nor the woman, who were in separate cars, was wearing a seat belt, said Officer Phil Kirby of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

The woman -- who was not a licensed driver, Kirby said -- was driving south on Kester Avenue when her vehicle struck the one carrying the boy as it traveled on Valerio Street about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The boy, who was riding with his father, was taken by paramedics to Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, where he was pronounced dead, Kirby said. The woman was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.

Kirby said the boy’s father was apparently unhurt in the accident.

Kirby said that no names were being released while the investigation was underway and that no charges had been filed.
