Valley night life gets another lift
Here’s the skinny on Skinny’s: It’s sure to take the Valley to another level. The North Hollywood bar, owned by the Room’s Jeremy Thomas and partners Simon Jones (Vine) and Jeffrey Stein (Elixir), is joining a growing network of successful bars in the area, as well as raising the bar for design. “We took out all the mirrors and uncovered a lot of original old stone,” says Thomas, who’s planning a soft opening for the Lankershim Boulevard bar this weekend. “We cleaned it up, and now the place looks like a vintage ‘50s lounge.” Timing is everything. Skinny’s is coming hot on the heels of such recent Valley successes as the retro Lucy’s 51 (Toluca Lake); Firefly, Guy’s North and Sapphire (Studio City); Match and NoBar (NoHo); and Coda (Sherman Oaks).... And speaking of Coda, the Van Nuys Boulevard hotspot is co-owned by Ashley Joyce, who is Thomas’ partner in both the Room in Hollywood and the Room in Santa Monica. Joyce says fans of their back-alley Hollywood bar, one of the first to usher in the Cahuenga Boulevard renaissance, can look forward to a remodel in early June.

On deck were Donald Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Jr., as well as actor David Spade.... Gonna be hot in the city tonight as Us Weekly hosts an event at Sugar (formerly Xes) for its annual “Hot” issue. Scheduled to be on deck at the Hollywood nightclub are Jennifer Lopez and Lindsay Lohan (who are being given style awards), David Arquette, Carmen Electra, Rose McGowan and Ian Ziering.... Boulevard3 is hosting a party for presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday and early RSVPs include Scarlett Johansson, Taye Diggs, Adam Brody and Zach Braff.... E3rd Steakhouse in downtown L.A. hosted the CD release party for Fishbone on Tuesday night.
Huntley is a place to be seen
The Penthouse at the Huntley Hotel was the site of Jennifer Garner’s birthday dinner on Friday. And barkeep Rande Gerber and ex-Laker James Worthy popped by on Saturday.... The Woods (formerly the Lava Lounge) celebrates its grand opening with a private event on Saturday, with plans to open to the public the following night.... Quentin Tarantino, Jack Black, Rosario Dawson, Lindsay Lohan, Jeremy Piven and Coldplay’s Chris Martin made the scene at Citizen Smith in Hollywood on Friday night.... And we hear Cedd Moses’ new downtown bar, Seven Grand, is offering chocolate truffles, beef brisket and free whiskey at its May 10 grand opening. Sign me up.
