War criminals in Afghanistan, U.S.

Share

Re “Crimes of politics,” editorial, Feb. 22

Your frivolous editorial has the following laughable secondary headline: “Many members of Afghanistan’s parliament are alleged war criminals. But the nation isn’t ready to try them.”

When will the media develop the backbone and journalistic integrity to announce the more apt statement: “Many members of the Bush administration, including the president himself, are alleged war criminals. But a supine Congress isn’t ready to try any of them.”

In your editorial, me thinks you complain too much.

We chose to support the very gangsters the Taliban had almost vanquished in our hasty revenge after 9/11.

Subsequently, we hustled an essentially illiterate population into an election that placed our champion, Hamid Karzai, in that country’s presidency.

Now, as we discover these mistakes, it is a little too late for an all-American solution to emerge from the Afghans.
