Officer kills gunman in South L.A.
A Los Angeles police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly pointed a gun at officers Saturday in South Los Angeles.
The victim was identified as Marcellus Wright, 25, of Los Angeles, said Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Kevin Maiberger, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, said officers stopped a car with three occupants near Broadway and 39th Place about 7:30 p.m.
After Wright ran from the car, officers chased and shot him when he allegedly pointed a gun at them, police said. He died at the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured, police said.
