U.N. help rejected for nuclear plant
Nuclear safety authorities have turned down an offer of help from the United Nations nuclear watchdog after last week’s quake damaged the world’s biggest nuclear power plant, Kyodo News agency reported.
Authorities closed down the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant indefinitely after the 6.8-magnitude quake in northwestern Japan caused radiation leaks.
Mohamed ElBaradei, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, had offered to send inspectors, urging Japan to share lessons from the incident.
But Japanese officials said they would deal with problems at the plant by themselves.
