Forever Jung
EVER wonder how a theme park designed by Carl Jung might play out? In mid-June, the performance group Circo de Poesia is premiering “Psychonauts,” a 24-hour interactive, multimedia exploration of Jung’s theories of personality.
Few event organizers can effectively commandeer a journey to the heart of the collective unconscious -- legally, at least -- so this latter-day “happening” in a secluded forest spot should be quite a trip. Opening performances June 16 include mimes, opera soloists and aerialists. A midnight procession will lead to the main performance, which illustrates Jung’s archetypes -- and literally denudes them (so be forewarned). The obligatory DJ dance segment will follow, along with a June 17 potluck, yoga/meditation workshops and a Lewis Carroll-inspired labyrinth.
Circo co-producer Sergio Martinez says that Jung’s ideas are best depicted by integrating the audience into the performance: “We think that there’s valuable information when you attend a performance [where] you’re the one that’s working the answers in your head as opposed to being delivered a feed on how the collective unconscious works.”
“Psychonauts,” 6 p.m. June 16 to 6 p.m. June 17. Lake View Terrace area. $50 to $75. (310) 779-8081, circodepoesia.com
