Gonzales affair needs reality check

Re “Ex-Gonzales aide says she may have ‘crossed the line,’ ” May 24

One would think after listening to the most recent testimony by former Department of Justice staff member Monica Goodling before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that many top officials in the Bush administration suffer from mild to severe memory problems.

In my opinion, we had better make sure that whomever we elect to be president in 2008 promises to do everything to not hire staffers with any personal or family history of forgetfulness. (Also, a commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law wouldn’t be bad either.)

Re “Behind the cloak of mystery, a timid voice,” May 24

What a relief it must have been for Goodling when, after her testimony about the politics behind the firing of eight U.S. attorneys, Rep. Chris Cannon (R-Utah) said, “If this is a witch hunt, it was Glinda, the pretty witch, not the Wicked Witch of the West.”

Clearly the next pressing question will be, “Is Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales handsome?”
