I would watch Kobe play win or lose. I go to watch the player and not the coach, so if there is going to be a trade it should be Phil Jackson.

Is it just me, or does Phil Jackson seem like the worst possible coach for Kobe Bryant to play for? It’s nobody’s fault, just a personality conflict. Phil is ironic, world-weary and aloof; Kobe is earnest, sensitive and stubborn. Bad combo. Kobe would do better playing for someone who reads John Grisham, not Schopenhauer; someone with gravy stains on his tie; someone like Don Nelson.

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Shaq’s basketball skills were significantly deteriorating during his last year with the Lakers. The Lakers made the right move ignoring his demands that he be paid $30 million plus a year; that’s Miami’s problem now. The mistake the current Lakers brain trust has to live with is the trading of Caron Butler, a guy who continues to average 20 points a game, for a guy that will probably never reach his potential, Kwame Brown.
