Wajed’s alliance wins election
An alliance led by former Prime Minister Sheik Hasina Wajed won a large parliamentary majority in Bangladesh’s first polls in seven years, unofficial results showed. A rival party complained of irregularities.
Analysts said it was unclear whether the losers would accept the results or take their supporters onto the streets to protest.
Unofficial results showed that Wajed’s Grand Alliance, led by her Awami League, had won at least 255 seats in the 300-seat National Parliament. Just 31 had gone to a group led by Khaleda Zia, another former prime minister.
