A ski resort worker opened fire on fellow employees in the mountains west of Boulder, killing a supervisor and fleeing before a sheriff’s deputy shot him to death.

Derik A. Bonestroo, 24, walked into a maintenance shed at Eldora Mountain Resort about 7:30 a.m. and started yelling about religion, Boulder County sheriff’s officials said. When Brian Mahon, 49, the resort’s general manager, asked what was going on, Bonestroo shot him, Undersheriff Tom Shomaker said.

Bonestroo died during a gun battle with a deputy.
